Del Ray Garden

Project Overview

This project was based on a corner lot located on Del Ray Ave and Mt. Vernon Ave in Del Ray, Virginia. After analyzing the site, people, and activities of the area, I was allowed to design what I saw fit in the designated space. I noticed that people enjoyed their time outside yet there were very few outdoor spaces.

I knew I wanted to design a versatile outdoor space. I wanted a garden that had structures that people could interact with and was multifunctional.

Given the choice to tear down the old building next to the empty lot or to keep the historic building known as "Bean Creative", I decided to keep the existing building on the lot and to add a garden.

I took the unique curve of the building and pushed the idea throughout the garden design to create a sense of unity between the garden and the existing building.
